OUR BIKE RIDES FOR THE YEAR
Quicksilver/New Almaden Park 4/6/03 13.67miles.
The Riders: Eileen, Eljas, Jeremy, Johnson
This was a challenging bike ride. The trail started with
a 1.2 mile climb. Part way up that climb Jeremy said "This
is F#%king Killing Me!" He had the look of excruciating pain
on his face or a blank stare. Eileen did yeoman's work as she
happily trekked up the hill. Her quote of the day was "I'll
rest at the top" as we were taking in some scenery and resting
for a minute. However, as she passed us by, she made her way over
to a historical information sign and began to read it aloud to
us all. Then Johnson got a wild hair up his ass and started chucking
rocks. He was so excited to throw rocks that is was hard not to
feel happy for him for he had found his place in nature. At this
point in the ride (about 4 miles) Jeremy had said the "F"
word more times than Eileen would spout off in a whole night of
cards. That's a lot of F-bombs! So what was Eljas doing this whole
time? Well, he was wondering why the ride was so damn hard. He
wouldn't shut up with "This wasn't so hard last week"
comments. At the end of the ride, he was convinced that we should
have gone the other way around because it felt as though we went
up hill the whole time. Eljas did take a foray into the woods
to take a leak. He was worried about getting poison oak! We all
successfully completed the ride and felt pretty good about it.
It must be said though that Johnson sandbagged everyone. He pissed
and moaned all week prior to the bike ride about how tired and
sore he was. That SOB blew us all away. At one point, we found
him waiting for us at a picnic bench with some out of shape guy,
who was laying topless on the picnic bench looking like a white
blubber seal. After the ride we went for pizza. A few days later
no one had heard from Jeremy. Was he okay after the ride? Luckily,
we finally heard from him and our worries were put to rest. Next
ride will the the weekend after Easter. The location will be determined
at a later time. Hopefully we can get a larger coalition of riders.
Til next time-Pop a Wheelie!
Santa Theresa, Date: Forgotten, 11.6 miles
The riders: Mr. Chuck, Eileen, Johnson, Eljas
This was a tough ride as I expected it to be. Everyone was struggling
to get up the hills. The ground was a little damp and there wasn't
much traction which made the hills even harder. The funniest part
of the ride involved Johnson. He was able to get ahead of everyone
so he was out of our sight. However, he claims to have passed
a petite young blond woman who he almost ran over. Johson asked
us if we saw her and none of us had. Now the interesting thing
was that this woman would have had to have passed us because there
was no where else to go on the trail. Johnson insist that she
passed by and he kept talking about her. But nobody else saw her!!
Was poor Johnson hallucinating on the brutal trail ride? Or was
it Santa Theresa herself?! Who knows, it could have been. In any
case, we finally reached the peak of our ride which meant it was
time for the fun stuff. The top of Santa Theresa has a bunch of
rocks on this single track and it is really fun to ride. Well,
it is for some of us. There was an injury sustained on the ride
but that is all to be said for that. Brutal ride, happy it's over.
We'll have to ride it again some time this fall. Hopefully Jeremy
could go on that one so that we can watch him because we know
how he likes really hard rides. Til next time-Pop a Wheelie!
